[ BONUS:  About UVA, UVB & Melanin. . . ]

Studio sunbeds replicate the sun's UVB (the frequency of light that triggers Melanin production ), and UVA (which oxidises the Melanin, causing the skin to darken ).

Melanin is the natural pigment responsible for colour in skin, hair and eyes. . .  and is composed of two main types;   Eumelanin and Pheomelanin

• EUMELANIN:   Is responsible for the darker colours in hair, eyes and skin, and occurs in two types;  brown and black.

• PHEOMELANIN:   Creates the red and yellowish hues found in lips, nipples and pink parts of the body, but does not protect against sun damage in the same way as Eumelanin.

These two forms of Melanin, in various combinations, are responsible for the huge diversity of human skin and hair colouration.   Red hair, for example, results from the presence of equal amounts of Pheomelanin and Eumelanin, whilst strawberry blonde hair comes from a mix of Pheomelanin and brown Eumelanin.

NOTE:   A third type of Melanin exists (Neuromelanin ) but doesn't influence appearance.

our sunbeds

stand up, or lie down. . .

Our brand new, purpose built salon in Neyland, Pembrokeshire, offers two lay-down UV sunbeds and a vertical 'stand-up' tanning booth, allowing you to maximise your tan in whichever format you prefer.

For your safety and comfort, all of our tanning units are thoroughly sanitised between every use, and comply fully with European 0.3 standards.

[ BONUS:  EU 0.3 standards explained. . . ]

In 2009, a new European safety standard for sunbeds was introduced, limiting the UV output to 0.3 Watts per square Meter (0.3 W/m2 ).

To put this into perspective, a power of 0.3 W/m2 is approximately the same intensity as the Mediterranean sun, at noon on a summer's day.   No wonder you tan quickly!
